GERBRAS Sustainability Talks (Online Event)

The GERBRAS-SCIENCENET Network launched the Webinar Series "GERBRAS Sustainability Talks" as a set of free online events focused on sustainability and collaborations between Brazil and Germany. The series aims to bring together experts, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss key sustainability challenges and opportunities in both countries.
These events are organized by the German-Brazilian Science and Technology Network (GERBRAS-SCIENCENET) and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), in partnership with the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP).

GERBRAS Sustainability Talks - Launching the Amazon Programme (#ST3)

We are pleased to invite you to the third edition of the GERBRAS Sustainability Talk, which will formally launch the Amazon Programme: a German-Brazilian Initiative for Applied Research and Sustainability in the Amazon Region. Bringing together researchers and experts from Brazil, Germany, and international institutions, the event will provide a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on climate change, biodiversity, indigenous knowledge, bioeconomy, sustainability, environmental governance, and innovation in the Amazon region. The event will happen on 11 June 2026 (Thursday) and will divided into two complementary moments, a morning session in English and an afternoon session in Portuguese.

GERBRAS Sustainability Talks – Sustainability in the Amazon (#ST1)

🌱 Event Report:

We are pleased to announce the success of the first edition of GERBRAS Sustainability Talks, held online on June 11, 2025. Our inaugural event focused on the theme “Sustainability in the Amazon,” a vital discussion that brings together researchers, professionals, and stakeholders committed to building more sustainable solutions for the present, with an eye toward the near future.

💡Key insights:

📌 More than 95 participants joined us, enriching the debate with questions, reflections, and a wealth of knowledge-sharing.
📌 Throughout the two-hour event (9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m., Brazil time), we had inspiring talks and discussions that highlighted the importance of environmental preservation, sustainable development, and innovation in the Amazon region, especially in alignment with the discussions leading up to COP 30, which took place in Belém (PA), Brazil, in November 2025. The entire program was conducted in Portuguese and offered completely free of charge.
📌 Our special thanks to the speakers, the organizing team, and all participants who helped make this first session a milestone for our network.

GERBRAS Sustainability Talks – Artificial Intelligence, Technologies, and Climate Action: The Role of Higher Education Institutions (#ST2)

🌱 Event Report:

We are pleased to share the success of the second edition of the GERBRAS Sustainability Talks, held online on October 14, 2025. In this session, we discussed the theme “Artificial Intelligence, Technologies, and Climate Action,” with a special focus on the role of higher education institutions in promoting sustainability, new climate-focused technologies, and climate mitigation and adaptation strategies.

💡Key insights:

📌 The event was attended by 70 participants, who attended lectures on education, technology, and global climate challenges.
📌 Participants had the opportunity to hear three presentations that offered different perspectives on university mobilization, technology integration, and the use of AI simulations in higher education:

  1. “University Mobilization for Climate Action,” presented by Prof. Dr. Josué Lakabi (UNICAMP).
  2. “Technologies to Integrate Sustainable Development into Production and Educational Systems,” presented by Prof. Claudio de Vasconcelos (Federal University of Paraíba).
  3. “Artificial Intelligence Simulation as a Pedagogical Approach in Higher Education,” presented by Prof. Ana Paula Lemes Barbosa (University of São Paulo).
