GERBRAS Sustainability Talks (Online Event)

The GERBRAS-SCIENCENET Network launched the Webinar Series "GERBRAS Sustainability Talks #ST" as a set of free online events focused on sustainability and collaborations between Brazil and Germany. The series aims to bring together experts, researchers, and stakeholders to discuss key sustainability challenges and opportunities in both countries.
These events are organized by the German-Brazilian Science and Technology Network (GERBRAS-SCIENCENET) and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), in partnership with the Inter-University Sustainable Development Research Programme (IUSDRP).

#ST4 - Sustainability and Transformation: ESG, Artificial Intelligence & Energy Transition

On 4 July 2026, the online event drew 85 participants! This session happened in Portuguese, including the following presentations:
1. “Implementação de uma Interface Digital com Inteligência Artificial para a Gestão Sustentável de Projetos”, presented by Prof. Dr. Lilian Gavazzoni (Centro Universitário Integrado).
2. “Práticas Ambientais e Transparência Ativa em Instituições de Ensino Superior: Desafios para a Sustentabilidade”, presented by Me. Taisa Caetano Sousa Melo de Almeida (Instituto Federal Fluminense/Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro)
3. “Hidrogênio Verde: Aceitação Social e Disposição para Utilizar Tecnologias Associadas”, presented by Prof. Dr. Marcos Antonio Cruz Moreira (Instituto Federal Fluminense)

#ST3 - Launching the Amazon Programme

On 11 June 2026, the event hosted 80 participants across two sessions, one in English and one in Portuguese. The event brought together researchers and experts from Brazil and Germany and fostered an interdisciplinary dialogue on climate change, biodiversity, indigenous knowledge, the bioeconomy, sustainability, environmental governance, and innovation in the Amazon region.

#ST2 - Artificial Intelligence, Technologies, and Climate Action: The Role of Higher Education Institutions

On 14 October 2025, this session focused on the role of higher education institutions in promoting sustainability, new climate-focused technologies, and climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. The event was attended by 70 participants, including the following lectures:
1. “University Mobilization for Climate Action,” presented by Prof. Dr. Josué Lakabi (UNICAMP).
2. “Technologies to Integrate Sustainable Development into Production and Educational Systems,” presented by Prof. Claudio de Vasconcelos (Federal University of Paraíba).
3. “Artificial Intelligence Simulation as a Pedagogical Approach in Higher Education,” presented by Prof. Ana Paula Lemes Barbosa (University of São Paulo).

#ST1 – Sustainability in the Amazon

On 11 June 2025, our inaugural event welcomed more than 95. Throughout the two-hour event, we had inspiring talks and discussions that highlighted the importance of environmental preservation, sustainable development, and innovation in the Amazon region, especially in alignment with the discussions leading up to COP 30, which took place in Belém (PA), Brazil, in November 2025. The entire program was conducted in Portuguese.
